The Delta State Chapter of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) has directed its members to resume work on Tuesday, June 15, 2021.

The directive which was issued on Friday in a statement by its Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Edozie is coming following the suspension of the nationwide strike embarked upon over two months ago by the Association.

In the statement, Edozie noted that the directive has become necessary as it would help in ensuring that members of the association continue with their good and legitimate duties in assisting the State legislature in making good laws in line with the stronger Delta Agenda of the state government

It would be recalled that the Central Working Committee of the Association after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Wednesday, issued a communique suspending the strike embarked upon, March 23, this year.

In the communique which was made available to newsmen, the Union appreciated President Mohammed Buhari, his Chief of Staff, the Honourable Minister of Labour and Employment as well as the Presidential Implementation Committee on the implementation of financial autonomy at the state level.

The Association also commended the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and other parties who, according to the communique, facilitated the peaceful resolution of the strike via a Memorandum of Action (MoA).

The communique further reads, “The Union also commends the National Executive Council (NEC), Chapters of the Union especially all our members across the length and breadth of the country for their unalloyed support, resilience and steadfastness all through the struggle.

“That after an appraisal of the Nationwide Industrial strike action so far and consideration of calls from well-meaning institutions and members of the general public to suspend the strike action that PASAN do hereby suspend the Nationwide Industrial strike action to facilitate the passage of necessary legislation as contained in the (MoA).

“The strike action is only suspended for 45 days window starting from Monday 14th of June 3021 to 29th of July 2021.

“PASAN do hereby direct all members to resume at their various duty posts on Monday the 14th of June 2021.

“The Union frowns at the reported unnecessary intimidation and victimisation of members during the lawful industrial strike action.

“We shall no longer tolerate any further victimization of members due to their participation in the strike action as directed by the Union and guaranteed by extant Labour Laws,” the Union said.
