Executive Assistant on Communications to Delta State Governor, Dr Latimore Oghenesivbe, has again reminded those dragging the state governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, into the internal affairs of Delta State House of Assembly, that the legislative arm of government is absolutely independent, and not a branch of the executive arm.
He made the assertion on Tuesday in Asaba during a public affairs live radio talk show, saying that the recent suspension of Honourable Mathew Omonade, representing Ughelli North State Constituency 1, has nothing to do with the governor or the state government as woefully alleged by a self acclaimed political commentator, and which was widely circulated on social media platforms.
Oghenesivbe, a lawyer, said the universal principles of separation of powers connotes watertight independent of each arm of government; Legislative, Executive and Judiciary, pointing out that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended, also assigned functions and responsibilities to that effect, such that each arm of government cannot and should never act ultra vires it’s powers in a constitutional democracy.
He, however, noted that the mischievous outburst by a self acclaimed political commentator goes to no issue, because the state governor and this administration does not interfere, and will never be unnecessarily dragged into the internal business and functions of the legislature and the Judiciary, but shall always collaborate within acceptable boundaries to bring about good governance, promote rule of law, equity and good conscience.
Oghenesivbe, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Delta State Orientation Bureau, urged Deltans and members of the public to disregard the mischievous allegation linking the state governor to the suspension of the Honourable member representing Ughelli North State Constituency 1, describing the writer as a well known controversial public commentator working for the major opposition political party in the State.
“It is important to state that governor Sheriff Oborevwori, a core Democrat, respects and adhere strictly to the principles of separation of powers between the Legislative, Executive and the Judiciary arms of government.
“Rt Hon Oborevwori knows his boundary as the Head of the executive arm, and will never interfere with the functions and internal affairs of the other two arms of government.
“The allegation made by a self acclaimed political commentator that the governor was involved in the suspension of the member representing Ughelli North State Constituency 1, Hon Mathew Omonade, is far from the truth, mischievous and should be disregarded.
“Hon Mathew Omonade, knows the rules of the House, and very much aware of the workings in the hollowed chamber, whereas the political commentator who is now crying more than the bereaved is completely ignorant, and knows next to nothing about the rules and business of the House. He lacks locus standi in the matter.
“The executive arm of government cum the governor is working harmoniously with the other two arms of government to enhance good governance in the state, and no amount of propaganda, misinformation, disinformation, reckless statements and falsehood would be able to stop the moving train of development under the visionary leadership of governor Oborevwori,” Oghenesivbe assured
