As the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA) commenced its third legislative session, Speaker Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor charged lawmakers to place the interests of their constituents above personal biases and political prejudices.
Guwor, in his welcome address at the first plenary of the third session of the House, emphasised the need for unity, dedication, and people-centred legislation to deepen democratic governance and enhance development across the state.
He has called for renewed commitment to constitutional duties of lawmaking, representation and oversight.
The Speaker charged all to remain united, focused, and deliberate in their actions, as the state legislature partners with the Executive and other stakeholders to deliver democratic dividends to the people, saying that the expectations of constituents remain high.
Guwor appreciated his colleagues for what he described as “uncommon team spirit”, saying that their support to the leadership of the House was immeasurable.
He said “Distinguished colleagues, I warmly welcome you all to the Third Session of the 8th Assembly. Let me begin by expressing my profound gratitude to Almighty God for the successful celebration of the end of the Second Session of the 8th Assembly.
“On behalf of the leadership and Members of the House, I also wish to thank our amiable Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. ( Elder) Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori, and his dear wife, Her Excellency, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, for honouring our invitation with their esteemed presence in the Thanksgiving Service and at the reception. Their presence at the Thanksgiving Service and reception was refreshing and colourful. We are indeed grateful to His Excellency.
“In the same vein, I wish to convey the heartfelt appreciation of Members of the House to the immediate past Deputy Governor of the State, His Excellency, Deacon ( Barr.) Burutu Otuaro for coming to felicitate with us. I also thank our senior colleagues in the National Assembly and others for being with us at Thanksgiving on Sunday.
“May God continue to guide our deliberations and bless the Delta State House of Assembly,” Guwor stated.
