Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has directed that the air conditioners in the new office building at the premises of the State Assembly, Okpanam Road, Asaba, be made functional without delay.

Rt Hon Guwor who gave the directive during a guided tour of all the offices at the complex, expressed concern that the air conditioning system in the two-storey administrative building had been malfunctioning against the purpose it was made to serve.

Accompanied by the Majority Leader, Emeka Nwaobi, the Acting Clerk of the House, Oto Aghoghopia, and others, the Speaker directed that the company that installed the air conditioners be contacted immediately to rectify the issue and make them functional as the problem was traced to deficiencies in the installations.

According to Guwor, his leadership would not compromise on the welfare of the workers, saying that the office accommodation can not be said to be conducive without the needed facilities in place.

Urging the management and staff of the Assembly to ensure maximum productivity, the Speaker said he has noted most of the challenges confronting the workers and promised to address them all, starting with those that require immediate attention as soon as finances and time permit.

“The on-the-spot assessment of facilities at the Complex was a follow-up to my Maiden Meeting with Management and Staff of the State Legislature. The guided tour has allowed me to have first-hand knowledge of facilities across the offices. The Staff during the meeting drew my attention to certain issues and I promised that I would do a follow-up.

“I have gone round and seen things for myself. Those that require immediate attention would be handled as quickly as possible. There will be a follow-up on those that require long-term planning. Gradually and with the support of every stakeholder, including the Staff of the Assembly, all the issues would be addressed.

“My colleagues and I appreciate the efforts of the Assembly staff in our legislative business and oversight activities. We will continue to encourage them to do more by ensuring they carry out their functions in a conducive working environment. That we have resolved to provide. All we need is patience, support, cooperation and understanding. Together we shall build on the legacies of His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori who raised a lot of standards in the Assembly as the Presiding Officer of the House,” Guwor stated.
