Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has felicitated with the State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, on his second anniversary in office.

The Speaker, who spoke to newsmen after plenary of the House in his office at the Assembly Complex in Asaba, said there was much to be celebrated in the two years of governance of the state by Governor Oborevwori.

Guwor said the Governor, who incidentally is his predecessor in office as the Speaker of the sixth and seventh Assembly, since assumption of office on 29 May 2023, had exceeded the expectations of Deltans.

He maintained that Rt Hon Oborevwori in his electioneering campaign, promised to do MORE for Deltans and have matched his words with action with the massive execution of both inherited and newly initiated projects.

Highlighting some of the ongoing projects in the State, the Speaker said it has become a common saying that Delta State is now a huge construction site, stressing that the achievements of the Oborevwori administration in the last two years were commendable.

Rt. Hon. Guwor explained that the excellent performance of Rt Hon Oborevwori is evident in the massive ongoing construction of Flyovers at the Effurun-Warri axis, Beneku bridge in Ndokwa nation, Orere bridge in Ughelli South local government area, the Ughelli-Asaba dual carriageway, and several projects across the 25 local government areas in the State.

“For the past two years, what the Governor has done is beyond the expectation of Deltans as he promised to do more, and what we have seen is more than More.

“In the Warri axis, there has been massive infrastructural development, including drainages. Effurun, Enerhen, and the whole of Warri are taking a new look. Ughelli-Asaba expressway is near completion. The Orere bridge in Ughelli South, Beneku bridge in Ndokwa, all near completion”, Guwor said.

The Speaker stressed that the defection of the Governor with the members of the State Legislature from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressive Congress, APC has no negative impact on the MORE Agenda of the Oborevwori’s administration, rather it complements the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

He noted that as a state that is now connected to the ruling party at the center will translate into more dividends of democracy for the people, stressing that the defection will yield better result for Deltans.

According to Guwor, “the defection has no negative impact on the More Agenda. Rather, the MORE Agenda and the Renewed Hope Agenda complement each other as both are similar. Being connected to the top will translate into more dividends for our people”.

On the existing good synergy between the Executive and the Legislature, the Speaker said the State Assembly will maintain the collaboration with the executive to bring the desired development for the people.

While highlighting areas of collaboration with the executive, Guwor disclosed that the approval and speedy passage of the Appropriation bill has no doubt supported the State Government in carrying out its programs and policies.

“The essence of electing members of the house of Assembly and also electing a Governor, is to give our people desired development. What you see in Delta between the Executive and Legislature working in synergy is to bring this desired development to our people. We will continue to sustain that synergy”. Guwor said.

Responding to a question on democracy in Nigeria, the Speaker said the twenty-six years of democratic rule in Nigeria comes with a lot of benefits, such as press freedom and infrastructural development, describing it as the beauty of democracy.

He said, “It brings a lot of benefit to our people, especially in the area of Press freedom and infrastructural development, amongst others”.

Rt Hon Guwor congratulated Deltans for the celebration of the return of democratic governance in the country and for maintaining their support for good governance in the state.
