Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Housing and Women Development has stressed the need for early completion of the new residential and office complex building project for the Secretary to the State Government and the Chief of Staff Government House.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hon Ferguson Onwo who stated this when he led members to inspect the project as part of oversight activities of the Committee, assured of required budgetary provisions that would facilitate speedy execution of the project.
The legislators were also at the new Press Center building project located inside the new Government House, Asaba for on the spot assessment of progress of work.
The ongoing new residential and office complex project for the Secretary to the State Government, SSG and the Chief of Staff Government House is located on the cabinet office road, beside the old Government House, in the state capital.
The three in one project is made up of the SSG residence, that of Chief of Staff and a massive Office Complex as well as few attached smaller buildings to accommodate the two key officers of the state government and their personal staff.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Housing and Women Development, Hon Ferguson Onwo commended the initiative for new residential and office complex for the SSG and Chief of Staff Government House.
Hon Onwo stated that the two government functionaries are major players in the governance of the state, stressing that their comfort both at work and home can not be over emphasized.
The Lawmaker emphasized that the project was another mile stone of the state government and assured of continued effective collaboration between the state legislature and the executive towards more infrastructural development in the state.
The State Commissioner for Housing, Chief Festus Ochonogor, who led the Lawmakers on the guided tour of the office complex and the adjourning residential buildings for SSG and Chief of Staff, said work on the project is expected to be completed before the end of the year.
Chief Ochonogor explained that the office complex is designed to house the two top government officials, while the residential building is five rooms en-suite duplex to be provided with state-of-the art facilities.
The Housing Commissioner disclosed that the ministry is not only concerned about completion of the project as scheduled, but also effective supervision of the work to ensure quality use of materials.
On the new press center, located inside the new Government House, Chief Ochonogor said after sorting out issues hindering execution of the project which was inherited from the last administration, it was redesigned to meet modern standards required of media practitioners.
The Housing Commissioner commended the Committee for the visit and solicit for continuous support of members.
He expressed the capacity and commitment of the state government to completing the numerous housing projects across the state.
