DTHA Committee assures of sustained partnership with MDAs

The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Housing, Women Affairs and Community Development, has assured of sustained partnership between it and the Ministry, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, under its supervision.

The Chairman of the Committee and member representing Isoko North Constituency, Hon Jude Ogbimi gave the assurance, when he led members of the committee on familiarisation visits to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Community Development and the Delta Development Property Agency, DDPA.

The Committee Chairman, Hon Jude Ogbimi said the sound synergy between the Executive and the Legislative arms of government in the state is commendable, saying that the cordial relationship has promoted peace, economic and Infrastructural growth in the state.

Hon Ogbimi stated that the familiarization visits was in line with his committee’s desire to enhanced the existing good working synergy between the state legislature and the executive, even as he called for the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders.

He said the committee is determined to do its constitutional mandates to support the MDAs in budgeting provision, oversight and other relevant functions that would promote good governance in the state.

Hon Ogbimi who was recently assigned the Chairmanship of the House Committee on Housing, Women Affairs and Community Development by the leadership of the House, explained that all critical stakeholders must play their respective roles in effective implementation of government policies and programs.

At the headquarters of the DDPA, the Lawmaker commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for building and completing a magnificent world class new secretariat building project in Asaba to provide conducive working environment for civil servants in the state.

Hon Ogbimi urged the agency to be accountable and seek more ways to partner with private investors for mass housing development in the state, adding that government resources is constrained by many challenging needs.

The General Manager DDPA, Mr Charles Esiovwa commended the Lawmakers for the visit which he said created opportunity to seek more support from the state legislature in addressing the funding and other challenges faced the agency, including land encroachment.

He congratulated Hon Ogbimi on his elevation as the chairman of the committee adding that with better funding the agency is determined to provide more housing for deltans across the state.

The Committee Chairman and members were received at the headquarters of the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Community Development by the Commissioner, Mrs Flora Alanta.

Hon Ogbimi informed the officials of the commitment of the State Assembly to supporting programs geared towards youth and women empowerment in the state.

He urged them to always bring to the attention of the committee areas of needs, saying that members would offer assistance when necessary in addressing any challenges faced by the ministry.

The Commissioner for Women affairs and community development, Mrs Flora Alanta said the ministry is saddled with many responsibilities, including support for physically challenge persons, creche development, widows, orphanages, people living with leprosy and empowerment of women both petty traders and skilled persons.

She thanked the committee for the visit and solicited for desired support in moving the activities of the ministry forward.
