The Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has emphasised the importance of training and retraining of the Assembly workforce with a promise that his leadership will continue to strive in that regard.
Rt Hon Oborevwori who gave the assurance while declaring open a 2-Day Training Workshop for staff on salary grade levels 3 to 10 of the State Assembly, said the programme is to achieve optimum performance of the workforce in their assigned duties as well as to render quality service at all times.
The Speaker stated, “this training could not have come at a better time than now especially as the State Houses of Assembly are beginning to operate Financial Autonomy granted by the Fourth Alteration of the Constitution. Resulting from anticipated new challenges as the Legislature migrates into the regime of self-accounting, this Workshop is therefore targeted at improving the work ethics of staff and also prepare you to handle new tasks that may emerge.
“As vital players in the Assembly Service, this capacity building workshop will bring you up to speed with the middle and top management staff on the vision of the leadership of the House and how to achieve set goals. You will recall that the leadership of the House in August embarked on rigorous staff training for middle and top management staff of the Assembly in a bid to properly position the bureaucracy of the Assembly for the new responsibilities that come with the celebrated autonomy,” Oborevwori explained.
The Speaker urged the participants to take advantage of the training opportunity to develop new skills and work ethics to enable them fit into the changing business environment in the legislature.
“Luckily, you have some of the best resource persons around who will handle this 2-Day training. Our erudite brother, John Mutu is here to facilitate the Workshop along with Barr. Ibrahim Usman, Dr.. Joseph Ochogwu and Emmanuel Tudou. I encourage you to engage meaningfully throughout these two days and please justify the resources expended on this training program,” Oborevwori said.
The Clark of the House, Mrs Lyna Ocholor, said the training program with the theme: “Good Governance, A Joint Task” is the last segment of the capacity building workshops for all categories of Staff of the Delta State House of Assembly, including political aides.
She expressed gratitude to the Speaker and the leadership of the Assembly for their commitment to enhancing knowledge in the state legislature, saying that the development had continued to yield more excellent results in the Assembly.
Mrs Ocholor assured of a sustained efficient and responsive legislature as the staff are happy for always being carried along in the activities of the House.
The facilitator of the training program Mr John Mutu, said he look forward to seeing positive results after the training and charged participants to be committed to learning.
He said the training will among others focus on Individual attitude towards work, strategies that promote teamwork, value reorientation and expectations as they strive to deliver on mandates.
The Speaker was accompanied to the opening ceremony by the Deputy Speaker, Ochor Christopher Ochor, Majority Leader, Ferguson Onwo, Minority Leader, Innocent Anidi and Deputy Chief Whip of the House, Solomon Ighrakpata.
