Delta State Governor-elect, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has promised to continue to stimulate a functional, vibrant and results-oriented State Legislature.

Oborevwori who is the Speaker of the State Assembly made the promise at a 3-Day Training Programme for Members of Staff of the Delta State House of Assembly on Grade Level 12 to 16, being held in Asaba, the state capital.

The Governor-elect and Speaker stated that the Legislature as the first arm of government and citadel of representation of people’s mandate will continue to attract attention in terms of democratic practices and good governance.

Represented by the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Ochor Christopher Ochor, Oborevwori told participants that as the Assembly’s reservoir of parliamentary practice and procedure as well as the institutional memory, the Leadership of the House rely on them on several fronts, including Quality Advice, Efficient and Effective Service Delivery, and Institutional Continuity.

To achieve the foregoing, he stated that the House needs a well-groomed, effective, efficient and amenable workforce, noting that “the timely realization of these roles have guided us in ensuring we train and retrain members of staff from time to time for international best practices in service delivery.

“The outcome over the years has led to efficiency, effectiveness and productivity among officers, middle and management staff of the House,” Oborevwori stated.

He said to consolidate on previous gains of training and retraining, the leadership and management of the Assembly decided to organize the workshop to further deepen the working knowledge of the staff.

“While it is true that we are not equally endowed, training opportunities like this help in bridging the knowledge gap. For this reason, I want to encourage you to take this training seriously. This training will stimulate your knowledge, expand your horizons and above all, strategically reset your mind for your career and personal development.

“As the most vibrant state House of Assembly in the country, our intention is to have the best and brightest members of staff for superior service delivery to complement our roles as legislators. Importantly, we are privileged to always have access to the best resource persons, facilitators and trainers to actualise our dream of a virile workforce, Oborevwori stressed.
