Ahead January 16 resumption of Delta Assembly, Guwor restates vibrancy of House

Speaker, Delta State Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor has assured that the House will continue to work closely with the Executive in meeting the yearnings and aspirations of Deltans.

Reflecting on the activities of the 8th Delta Assembly in the last seven months, Rt Hon Guwor said members of the Delta State Legislature would meet before the end of the month to set legislative agenda for 2024.

Guwor stated that the proposed legislative framework will be designed in line with the MORE Agenda of the State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, which he said focuses on enhancing quality of lives of Deltans as well as basic infrastructural development in the state.

The Speaker restated the commitment of members to delivering the core mandates of representation, lawmaking and oversight, saying that the Assembly will continue to live up to its constitutional responsibilities.

“More impactful bills, motions and resolutions that would promote peace and good governance in the state will emanate from the Hallowed Chamber in 2024,” he said.

Guwor who is the National Treasurer, Conference of Speakers of States Houses of Assembly, disclosed that the House will resume plenary on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, after the Christmas and New Year break, assuring that the vibrancy of the House would be maintained in 2024.

He said members would be encouraged to continue to enhance their performances in meeting the expectations of constituents across the 29 constituencies in the state.

Speaking in retrospect on the journey so far by the 8th Delta State Assembly, Guwor disclosed that seven bills have so far been received of which four were executive bills, while three were private member bills.

He added that four of the bills have been passed, of which three already assented to by the Governor, while one is yet to be signed into law, disclosing that the other three are at various stages of legislative processing.

The Speaker paid glowing tributes to members for their dedication and commitment to duties, stressing that their legislative ingenuity led to the sound scrutiny and early passage of the 2024 Appropriation Bill, which was signed into law by the Governor on 20th December 2023.

He assured that the welfare and well-being of Deltans would continue to dominate the minds of the Lawmakers as they are all united at giving their best for the progress of the State and its people.

Guwor reiterated the importance of training and retraining, saying that 2024 will witness more capacity building for all categories of workers in the Delta State Assembly.

He said sound synergy between the Executive and Legislative arms of government is the hallmark of good governance in Delta State, stressing that the camaraderie can never be compromised.

Guwor assured that the love and unity of purpose among the Lawmakers will be strengthened in the 2024 legislative year as it is key in the advancement of the state.

The Speaker however charged members to remain alive to their responsibility in the discharge of their legislative duties as their genuine services to the state were needed towards achieving the developmental goals of the state government in the state.

He used the opportunity to once again wished Deltans, a prosperous new year.
