The Catholic Diocese of Kontagora, Niger State, has confirmed that armed bandits attacked St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri community, Agwara Local Government Area.
In a statement issued by the Diocesan Secretary, Fr. Jatau Luka Joseph, the attack occurred between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. on Friday.
He said the assailants abducted several pupils, students, teachers, and shot security personnel during the raid.
The Diocese condemned the attack and voiced strong concern for the safety of the kidnapped victims and their families.
According to the statement, security agencies were immediately alerted and have launched coordinated efforts to secure the release of those taken.
The Bishop assured the public that the Church is working closely with security forces, community leaders, and government authorities to aid rescue operations.
