Prince Kenneth Ukpebitere has emerged as the President General, Evwreni Clan Improvement Union (ECIU) in Delta State.

Kenneth Ukpebitere, who belongs to the Ukpebitere dynasty of the Urevwe community in Evwreni Kingdom, Ughelli North Local Government Area scored 91 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Chief Simon Asite, who polled 82 votes.

Two other contestants for the position of President General in the election with 4 void votes were Chief Jude Mogu and Mr. Arigo Okorogbudje.

The keenly contested election was held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at the Eni Townhall in Evwreni Kingdom.

Accreditation for the election process into the Evwreni Clan Improvement Union ECIU began as early as 8am with a delegation of the Delta State Government comprising the Commissioner for Women Affairs Community and Social Development, Princess Pat Ajudua, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Chief Edwin Uzor and security agencies were all on ground to ensure a hitch-free process.

Kenneth Ukpebitere was elected as the new President General of Evwreni Kingdom by delegates drawn from 15 branches of Evwreni Clan Improvement Union both home and in the diaspora.

Others elected to pilot affairs of ECIU were Vice President General, Sunday Okpare; Secretary General, Daniel Amecohro; Treasurer, Clement Isaka; Assistant Secretary, Ese Owolo; Public Relations Officer, Andrew Dodo and Organizing/Social Secretary, Joshua Usiada.

Speaking after their swearing-in in the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development Princess Pat Ajudua urged the people of Evwreni Kingdom particularly those who contested against Prince Kenneth Ukpebitere to join hands with him to advance peace and development in the kingdom.

Ajudua expressed optimism that the newly elected ECIU executive would go a long way to put an end to the lingering disagreement in Evwreni Kingdom.

She advised the Kenneth Ukpebitere-led executive to reach out to all aggrieved indigenes of Evwreni to carry everyone along.

For his part, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Chief Edwin Uzor commended the Evwreni people for the peaceful and orderly manner they conducted themselves in the election.

In a brief remark, Ukpebitere thanked the people of Evwreni Kingdom for the confidence reposed in him promising not to disappoint them.

He described his victory as a victory for all sons and daughters of Evwreni Kingdom pledging to ride on the popular mandate given to him to foster unity and security in the kingdom.

Observers of developments in Evwreni Kingdom say the successful conduct of the election would bring to an end several months of bitter rivalry amongst key stakeholders in the kingdom.
