Youths mostly from Ethiope West Local  Government  Area of Delta State on Tuesday staged a peaceful protest over the killing of Mr. Elliot Ofa, a PDP Councillorshìp candidate for one of the wards in the area demanding justice for his alleged assassination.

The youths nunbring over two thousand stormed the streets of Oghara, the country home of the former governor, Chief James Ibori.

Our correspondent garthered that the youths were also at the Palace of the Ovie of Oghara Kingdom, Ethiope West Local Government Council Secretariat and the Divisional Headquarters of the Nigeria Police, Oghara, singing solidariry songs and carrying plancards with various inscriptions such as: “Who kill Elliot Ofa?”, “We need justice”, “Stop the killing of politicians”, among others.

They were addressed at the various palaces visited by the authorities in charge.

It was also learnt that on January 26, 2021, few minutes to the hearing of the case of Late Mr. Elliot Ofa at a court in Benin, a call allegedly came from the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Zone 5 Benin demanding that a suspect in the case be taken back to prison.

This development was described by many as unconstitutional, bias, and having political undertone.

The youths while calling for the intervention of IGP, the Edo State Governor and his Delta State counterpart, appealed that justice should be done so that the soul of the dead can rest in peace.

The late Elliot Ofa was travelling with some of his colleagues to Asaba, the Delta State Capital to attend the 2021 DSIEC screening of all chairmanship and concellorship candidates for the March 6, 2021 council polls, when he was killed along the Jesee-Oben road on Monday, January 11, 2021.

The late Concellorship candidate of the PDP in Ethiope West is the younger brother to the former Commissioner of DESOPADEC, Dr Heney Ofa.
