A Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday restrained the Zamfara State House of Assembly, the Chief Judge, and others from impeaching the Deputy Governor of the state, Mr Mahdi Aliyu.
The judge, Justice Obiora Egwuatu gave the order while ruling in an ex-parte motion brought by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In Monday’s ruling, Justice Egwuatu in her ruling also halted the Zamfara State House of Assembly from carrying out impeachment on members of the House who are still in the PDP.
Recall that Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, officially defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, his deputy, Aliyu refused to move with him to the APC saying he will remain in the PDP to honour the mandate given to the party by the Supreme Court.
In an interview with BBC Hausa Service, Aliyu said “Remember how the Supreme Court brought us to power. That’s why I am thankful to God and chose to remain in the PDP.
“Since my father brought the party we never for once left the party. They met us in the PDP and they will left (leave) us there.”
Earlier this month, the Zamfara State House of Assembly asked Aliyu to appear before it on July 27 over a political rally he organised in the state.
