Iyovwaye unveils ‘SMART Plus Agenda’ as he seeks to govern Delta

A governorship aspirant in Delta State, Engr. Chris Iyovwaye says he has enormous capacity to contribute his quota towards growing and developing the state into an enviable world-class economy.

Iyovwaye stated this on Thursday at the PDP State Secretariat in Asaba, where he expressed his intention to govern the state and subsequently declared his interest to run the race of becoming Governor in 2023.

According to him, his SMART Plus Agenda will be anchored on cutting edge technology to stop capital flight while harnessing the human and material resources of the state to build industries geared toward developing a solid economy for the state.

While promising to make a mark in job creation, he said his government would encourage youth employment in a way that their capacities are developed to stand on their own to contribute meaningfully to the system.

“I have adopted the SMART Agenda of Governor Okowa into the SMART Plus Agenda because of the far-reaching intricate ingredients of real-time development embedded in it. I have what it takes to govern Delta from this level to the next positive level,” Iyovwaye said.

Carefully selecting his areas of leadership focus, Iyovwaye has said he would unleash his innovative prowess by anchoring his Agenda on; Security, Energy, Education, Industrialisation and Healthcare.

He told the party chairman that in his database of followers, he had well over 22,000 Deltans who don’t belong to any political party but had faith in him and could go wherever he goes. “This category of electorates he has also decided to move them into the PDP at a convenient date the party may give to gather them to join the family”.

Enthused by his brilliant submissions, the State Chairman of PDP, Olorogun Kingsley Esiso described Iyovwaye as a good party man who would come to inform his party executive of his intention to run for an office.

He commended the governorship aspirant for recognising the past Governors and the present one for their visible and well-acknowledged performances as Governors.

Esiso acknowledged the fact that the dynamic politician has the credentials to bring his vision to fruition, affirming that the job of the party executive is primarily to give equal opportunities to all members to excel in their ambitions to become the party’s candidates.

His words, “We cannot support any aspirant, because we cannot give what we don’t have. The job of aspirants at this stage is to vigorously pursue their campaigns personally with delegates. This time, you are our responsibility being a candidate, but not when you are an aspirant. At that stage, you are on your own with the delegates.

“We have 270 wards in the State, and for every ward, we have delegates there. You must do everything to canvass and win the votes of delegates ahead of the party’s primaries. It’s when you have emerged as a candidate that we can now come out as party leaders to support you as our candidate,” Esiso posited.

The intrigues with party politics leading to primary elections are quite understood by the businessman cum politician, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye. He has followers who have enormous confidence in him and he must do everything possible to clinch the party’s ticket in order to fulfil his ambition of leading the State as Governor.

Recalled Iyovwaye, renowned business figure in the Marine sector and industrialist, politician and servant of God, is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Wellmann Group of Companies had earlier picked the Governorship Expression of Interest Form of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday

Senator Ede Dafinone: A Quintessential Legislator Building Transformational Legacy in Delta Central

A MANDATE FOR MASTERY: WHY DELTA CENTRAL MUST RETURN SENATOR EDE DAFINONE TO THE RED CHAMBER* By; *Lord Davidson Onedju* *De Pen Lion* Saturday, November 29, 2025 The political air in Delta Central is thickening with anticipation, as the conversation around who will bear our standard in the Senate in 2027 begins in earnest. In this crucial deliberation, one truth emerges, not as a whisper of suggestion, but as a resonant decree of political and developmental logic: Senator Ede Dafinone is not merely an option; he is an imperative. To speak of denying Senator Dafinone a second term is to interrupt a symphony at its intermission. His first term has been a masterclass in foundational, purposeful representation, a period of laying the groundwork for transformative, enduring progress. The notion that he should be sacrificed on the altar of simplistic geographic arithmetic, suggesting that he and the Governor hail from the same district, is a fallacy of the highest order. It is a myopic argument that prioritizes political expediency over proven performance, and it holds no weight in the face of tangible achievement. While others may clamor for the spotlight, Senator Dafinone has been diligently working in the quiet corridors of power and the vibrant heart of our communities. He has deployed his considerable professional acumen not for theatrical displays, but for substantive, life-altering outcomes. His is a legacy being built not on loud pronouncements, but on the silent, steady hum of progress in infrastructure, in human capital development, and in strategic legislative interventions that uplift the Urhobo nation. To the untrained eye, his deliberate and methodical approach may be misconstrued. Let us be clear: what some mistake for slowness or weakness is, in fact, the meticulous care of a master craftsman. What they label as an unpredictable leadership style is the mark of an intellectual who thinks three steps ahead, unshackled by the predictable, often ineffective, political playbook. He is not a weakling; he is a strategist of the highest caliber, a quiet storm gathering force for the benefit of his people. Therefore, let this be a clarion call and a definitive statement to all aspirants with senatorial ambitions from Delta Central: to contest against Ede Dafinone is to stand against the tide of progress itself. It is to prioritize personal ambition over the collective advancement of our people. The wiser, more noble path is to channel that energy into consolidating the gains we have begun to make. Rally round this proven performer. Strengthen his hand. For in securing his second term, we are not just rewarding an individual; we are investing in the accelerated development of our senatorial district. Senator Ede Dafinone has earned the right to complete the mission he has so admirably begun. His fluency in the language of governance, combined with his unwavering integrity, makes him our most formidable advocate. Let us not be swayed by fleeting arguments or distracted by political theatrics. The choice is clear. Let us stand with Ede. Let us return him to the Senate with a resounding mandate, and watch as he turns the promise of his first term into the profound legacy of his second.
