Political leaders and stakeholders in Isoko South and Isoko North Local Government Areas of Delta State have thrown their weight behind the clamour by the Delta Central 2023 political lobby group for the district to produce the next governor of the state in 2023.

The endorsement by the political juggernauts of Isoko Nation for Delta Central to produce the next governor was made when the National Chairman of DC-23, Chief Ighoyota Amori led the body on a consultative visit at Oleh and Ozoro.

The DC-23 consultative team led by Chief Ighoyota Amori was received by political leaders and stakeholders of Isoko South at the Chief Ekpre Otobo Hall in Isoko South Local Government Council, Oleh while the consultation with Isoko North political leaders was done at Rt Hon Leo Ogor’s Residence in Ozoro.

The DC-23 which is made up of card-carrying members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Delta Central Senatorial District, committed to power rotation amongst the three Senatorial Districts after 8 years, sought the support of the political elites in Isoko South and North.

Chief Amori, visibly elated with the reception accorded DC-23 delegation by the leaders of Isoko North and South, noted that the electoral process in Delta State will be a stroll in the park for the PDP, once the rotation policy is cemented, as it will be a benefit to all.

On the dream of producing an Isoko Governor come 2031, and getting carried along in the activities of Government, Chief Amori assured the Isoko political gladiators of the support of the Urhobos and Delta Central at large when the time comes.

For his part, DC-23 spokesperson, Olorogun Arthur Akpowowo said the political lobby group is unrelenting in their gospel of preaching the rotation policy as it is not only to the advantage of Delta Central but Delta State as a whole noting that DC-23 will continue to plead with all stakeholders in the state to see reason with them.

Pioneer Speaker of the Delta House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Emmanuel Okoro and the Isoko South Local Government PDP Chairman, Chief Godspower Obaro, who spoke on behalf of the leaders and stakeholders of Isoko Nation said the Isokos would pray and support Delta Central to produce the next Governor of Delta State, as the sustenance of the rotation policy would enable an Isoko indigene to become the number one citizen of Delta State in 2031.

Describing the visit as divine, Rt. Hon Okoro and Chief Obaro reminded all gathered of the cultural, social and political history of the Isokos and Urhobos while enumerating the support of the Isokos towards the emergence of Olorogun Felix Ibru and Chief James Ibori, both of Delta Central as Governor of Delta State,  they said they expect the Urhobos to do likewise when the need arises.

The high point of the meeting between members of DC-23 and the political heavyweights of Isoko North and South was the call for unity and brotherliness that was once prevalent amongst the Urhobos and Isokos.

The endorsement received by the DC-23 consultative team from the political leaders and stakeholders in Isoko South and Isoko North Local Government Areas was a follow-up to that of the Isoko Traditional Rulers sometime in October 2021, when the group visited the monarchs.
