The Delta State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its sustained offensive against the trafficking of illicit arms and ammunition in the state.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the operation followed credible intelligence provided by the Force Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU), Abuja, which led operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), headed by ASP Julius Robinson, to arrest a female suspect, one Jamila Abubakar, at the Conoil Filling Station along Warri–Patani Road, Effurun.
During the arrest, the operatives recovered a total of ₦550,000, suspected to be proceeds from illicit arms dealings, concealed beneath her bag.
Her confession provided a major lead that enabled the police to launch a coordinated follow-up operation.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the team stormed the Niger-Cat area of Warri, where they apprehended a notorious arms dealer, Ahmed Ibrahim, aged 31, from Ekpan in Uvwie Local Government Area, at about 7:25 a.m. on October 22, 2025.
A search conducted on the suspect led to the discovery of a bag containing 115 rounds of 7.63mm AK-47 live ammunition, 220 rounds of SMG rifle ammunition, and 32 live cartridges.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Ibrahim is a major supplier of arms to bandit groups operating in the northern region of the country.
He has been on the Command’s watchlist for his alleged involvement in several high-profile kidnapping and armed robbery cases.
The police further linked him to the kidnap and murder of one Ogheneovo Onemu, a female victim abducted on May 17, 2024, at Ajaokuta Community, Ughelli North Local Government Area, who was reportedly killed even after a ₦4 million ransom was paid.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the operatives for their professionalism and diligence, describing the arrests as “another testament to the Command’s unwavering commitment to stemming the flow of illegal arms and dismantling criminal syndicates.”
He reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to identify and neutralize all networks involved in illicit weapons trade across the state, while urging residents to remain vigilant and continue to support the police with credible information.
“The Command will sustain its momentum against criminal elements and remain resolute in protecting the lives and property of all law-abiding citizens,” the CP assured.
For emergency or intelligence reports, the Command’s control room numbers are: 08036684974, 08114895600, and 08025666914.
