The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has seized banned, expired, and unregistered products worth over ₦1.5 billion during a major enforcement operation at the Lagos Trade Fair Market.

In a statement posted on its official X handle, the agency said the operation was led by its Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Mr. Martins Iluyomade.

The raid targeted the cosmetics section of the market, where multiple warehouses were found stocked with cosmetics, food items, and other NAFDAC-regulated goods that were either unregistered or lacked proper date markings.

“Over a trailer load of such products was evacuated, while another trailer containing cosmetics was intercepted,” the statement read.

The driver of the intercepted trailer reportedly fled the scene, but the vehicle was secured by NAFDAC operatives.

NAFDAC described the seizure as one of the largest in recent months, underlining its intensified crackdown on the circulation of unsafe consumer products in Nigeria.

The agency reiterated its commitment to nationwide enforcement efforts aimed at protecting public health.

“The agency is committed to ensuring that only safe, approved, and properly labelled products are made available to Nigerian consumers,” it said.

This development follows a recent NAFDAC operation in the Alapere area of Ketu, Lagos, where officials uncovered an illegal enterprise involved in the sale of fake chemicals, expired food flavours, unauthorised fertilisers, and repackaged pharmaceutical raw materials.

Iluyomade told journalists that the raid was based on credible intelligence about a criminal network involved in large-scale counterfeiting.

He emphasised that such enforcement actions are part of NAFDAC’s broader mission to rid the market of hazardous products and to safeguard the health of Nigerians.
