The Ejovi Family Foundation (EFF), a non-governmental organisation, has provided free comprehensive eye screening to more than 2,000 persons from various communities in Agbon Kingdom, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.
The free medical eye screening held at Isiokolo, headquarters of Ethiope East is part of the activities earmarked to celebrate the birthday anniversary of the foundation founder, Chief Johnbull Ejovi.
Speaking during the exercise, the foundation’s Project Manager, Oghor Oghenemaro Whitney, said, “The Ejovi Family Foundation, in collaboration with Lily Hospitals foundation, is giving back to the community for community development, and everybody is touched.
“Our target population is 2,000 persons who would receive free eye comprehensive screening, participation and distribution of 100 to 200 free eyeglasses for refractive errors and eye drops for eye diseases.
“And the foundation would perform surgeries for 20 persons including cataract removal and other treatable conditions.
“Awareness about preventable blindness and the promotion of long-term eye health practices, all to mark and celebrate the birthday anniversary of our father, Chief Johnbull Ejovi.
According to her, Many people have limited eye care, and from what we have seen in the last two days, children to adults are having eye issues that require glasses, eye drops, drugs or other treatments.
“And what we are doing to provide free eye screening, prescription and distribution of 200 corrective glasses and perform 20 eye cataract surgeries and other related diseases.
“300 persons with different eye issues are being screened, and if there is the need for prescription, and surgery, our qualified Optometrist and Ophthalmologist are on standby to assist”, she disclosed.
Commending the Ejovi Family Foundation, EFF, beneficiaries of the free eye screening held that Chief Johnbull Ejovi gave Hope to them by restoring their sight.
Mr Samson Egburhe, who is on the verge of going blind due to glaucoma, commended the Ejovi Family Foundation for bringing succour and support to them.
He said, When I came on the first day, I could not be attended to, but today, being the second day, a specialist attended to me, and everything given to me was free of charge, and I want to commend the organisers of this laudable exercise.”
Mrs Adu Victoria, on her part, said, I have been having eye issues for quite a long time now, and when I heard about the free medical eye screening, I grabbed the opportunity to come for a checkup.
“When I got here, the Doctor examined my eyes after I had explained to him that I cannot read and my eyes are always dropping water whenever I attempt to read, he recommended glasses, and that is what I am waiting to collect for free.
Before now, the glasses that I was using were bought from the roadside just to aid me, but with the medications and glasses that would be given to me, I hope to regain my sight, and I want to say thank you to Chief Johnbull Ejovi and the Ejovi Family Foundation for coming to our rescue.”
