The Delta State Police Command has dealt a major blow to criminal networks across the state, intercepting 400 live cartridges in Asaba and arresting a notorious drug dealer in Jeddo in separate sting operations.
Police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying the coordinated operations underscore the Command’s renewed commitment to tackling arms trafficking and drug distribution under Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi.
Arms Trafficker Nabbed at Asaba Head Bridge
On October 16, 2025, operatives of the ‘C’ Division, Asaba, led by CSP Ogbe Emmanuel, intercepted a Toyota Hiace Hummer Bus with registration number NGK 16 XB during a routine stop-and-search operation at the Head Bridge.
The driver, Ozoemenam Sylvanus, reportedly appeared nervous during questioning, prompting officers to conduct a thorough search of the vehicle. Their suspicion was confirmed when 400 live cartridges were discovered concealed inside the bus.
“The suspect initially claimed the packages contained padlocks, but was left speechless when they were opened to reveal live ammunition,” Edafe stated.
The suspect was immediately arrested, and the ammunition seized as exhibits. Investigation is ongoing to trace the source of the cartridges and identify those behind the illegal movement.
Drug Baron Falls in Orerokpe
In a separate operation on October 10, 2025, operatives of the Orerokpe Division, led by CSP Paul Oboware, arrested a 37-year-old suspected drug kingpin, Onos Afokoghene, known for distributing narcotics across Warri and nearby communities.
Acting on credible intelligence, the police stormed a known drug hotspot in Jeddo Community, where the suspect and others were allegedly selling and consuming illicit substances.
Afokoghene attempted to flee but was chased down and arrested. A search of the area led to the recovery of 3kg of Canadian Loud, 10kg of Indian Hemp, 24 litres of “Monkey Tail” (Indian hemp in dry gin), several sachets of Tramadol, and two POS machines suspected to have been used for transactions.
The suspect is in custody as investigations continue to uncover his supply network and criminal collaborators.
