A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Lovette Idisi, Friday afternoon narrowly escaped death after a condolence visit to the family of late Olorogun Kenneth Okpara at Eku in Ethiope East Local Government Area.

Late Okpara, a former Commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning in Delta State until his death on Friday, November 19, 2021, was in the 2023 governorship race in the state.

Narrating his ordeal to NewsNet Nigeria, Idisi who represented Ethiope Federal Constituency in the 8th National Assembly, said he left Asaba Friday morning to join Senator Ighoyota Amori, Chief Bernard Edewor, Chief Ejaife Odebala, Olorogun Arthur Akpowowo, Chief Christain Onogba and other leaders of the Delta Central 2023 (DC-23) to console with the family of the late Eku born renowned international Economist.

According to Idisi after the condolence visit, he joined Cheif Edewor in his vehicle while his own Highlander vehicle drove behind but, unfortunately before they could drive to Shoprite beside the Effurun roundabout near Warri, his Highlander being driven by his driver somersaulted.

He said, “Right there in the premises of Kenneth Okpara, Chief Bernard Edewor said I should enter his vehicle. My car had been behind me from when we left Kenneth Okpara’s house till Warri.

“Immediately we got to Shoprite I looked from under the bridge before we made the U-Turn I saw my Highlander with four wheels facing up. I could not believe it was the same car I entered to Eku and entered a different car from Eku to Shoprite.

“When I came down and cross the road that was when I realised my driver was upside down; everything was upside down.”

As at the time of filing this report, the condition of the driver who was rushed to the hospital for medical attention could not be ascertained.

Recall that Hon Jude Adjekpogu, the Councillor representing Ward 5 in Ethiope East Local Government Area, where Hon Lovette Idisi hails from passed on in the early hours of Thursday, December 16, 2021, after battling for his life for thirteen days at a private hospital he was rushed to following several bullets fired at him while driving in his car by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen on the busy Eku-Abraka road in the state.
