The remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari have been laid to rest at his private residence in Daura, Katsina State.

At about 5:50 p.m., Vice President Kashim Shettima and other dignitaries helped lower the late president’s body into the grave, marking the final rites for the former Nigerian leader.

His body, accompanied by President Bola Tinubu and top government officials, arrived at his Daura residence around 4:33 p.m.

Following the arrival, Islamic funeral prayers were offered at the helipad where the chopper landed. Thereafter, President Tinubu led mourners to the graveside for the burial.

The former president’s body, draped in Nigeria’s national flag, was carried into the residence by senior military officers.

Buhari passed away on Sunday evening at The London Clinic after a prolonged illness. He was 82.

Earlier in the day, his body arrived at Katsina Airport from London around 2:00 p.m. before being transported to Daura, his hometown.

Before the burial, the former president was honoured with gun salutes as part of the military funeral rites.
