The family of Elliot Ofa, the Councillorship candidate of the PDP from Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, who was murdered on Monday on the Oben/Igbenoba/Jesse road has alleged an assassination plot under the guise of herdsmen attack.

Elliot Ofa, who picked the PDP ticket for Ward 8/13 Oghara was in the company of four other councillorship candidates from Ethiope West in a vehicle travelling to Asaba to appear for screening by the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, DSIEC, on the afternoon of Monday, January 11, 2021, when they were reportedly attacked by suspected herdsmen.

The herdsmen were said to have shot sporadically at their vehicle, leading to the death of Elliot.

Two other persons, a man and a woman, in the vehicle with Elliot Ofa were said to have been kidnapped but released later.

It was gathered that the councillorship candidates, who escaped surfaced at Asaba, despite the incident to attend the DSIEC screening.

The family of Elliot Ofa, is now alleging an assassination plot under the guise of herdsmen attack and has called on the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the incident.

Following the incident, the Ofa family compound in Oghara, has been thrown into deep mourning with crowds of sympathizers thronging the vicinity daily.

Narrating the incident, wife of Elliot Ofa said her husband was called to join his colleagues to Asaba for screening by 3 pm that day, only for her to be called 40 minutes later that he was dead.

Former DESOPADEC commissioner, Dr Henry Ofa, described the death of his brother, Elliot as very painful.

Dr Ofa, a Chief of Oghara kingdom, said Elliot was a brilliant and enterprising young politician, who was set to begin his career in Local Government administration.

He called on the police to investigate the incident.

Late Elliot Ofa left behind a young wife and three children.

There is yet no information on any arrest over the incident from the Edo State Police Command, whose jurisdiction the attack took place.
