The people of Evwreni Kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State have protested against the alleged abuse of office by a representative of the kingdom on the Board of Trustees of Uherevie Host Community Development Trust under OML 30 Community Development Board, CDB, Elohor Uwhobe.

Sons and daughters of the kingdom who stormed the secretariat of the Community Development Board of Heritage Energy and Oil Services Limited in Ughelli last Thursday, demanded the removal of Elohor Uwhobe for playing the script of a group of persons in the kingdom thereby jeopardizing the relative peace currently being enjoyed in the kingdom.

The protesters carried placards with inscriptions such as “ELOHOR UWHOBE is not qualified to be on the Board”,  “Elohor UWHOBE, Evwreni Kingdom doesn’t want you again“, ELOHOR UWHOBE, enough of your divisive acts”, and “ELOHOR UWHOBE don’t plunge us into another crisis”,

They alleged that the nomination of Elohor Uwhobe as a board member of Uherevie Host Communities Development Trust representing Evwreni Kingdom due to the requirements of the Petroleum Industrial Act (PIA) was illegal adding that if her actions are not checked they are capable of creating a crisis in Evwreni Kingdom.

The President-General of Evwreni Clan Improvement Union, ECIU, Chief Kenneth Ukpebitere, who led the protest accused Elohor Uwhobe of opposing the nominations of some persons in Evwreni Kingdom who were to be inaugurated by the Uherevie Host Community Development Trust.

Chief Ukpebitere noted that she was nominated to represent the kingdom and not her personal interests or to pander to the dictates of any particular person or group of persons, which according to him is presently generating undercurrents in the kingdom.

“Elohor Uwhobe has been clandestinely undermining the laid down rules of the UHEREVIE HOST COMMUNITIES by playing out scripts of her masters, an act that could jeopardize the budding peace (engineered by the Delta State government) being enjoyed by the community. Therefore, ELOHOR UWHOBE should be removed from the board of the PIA, as a stitch in time saves nine.

“Evwreni Kingdom has suffered intra-communal cries that engulfed the kingdom in 1999 and 2020, and we wouldn’t want to go back to Egypt.

“In the light of the aforementioned, we are here to tell you that ELOHOR UWHOBE has been removed from the board for breaching laid down rules and causing problems in the kingdom,” said Chief Ukpebitere.

Addressing the protesters, the Chairman, Board Of Trustees of Uherevie Community Development Trust, Comrade Agwarive Pender commended them for being very peaceful and law-abiding all through the protest.

He assured the people of Evwreni that all necessary steps would be taken to avert any issues capable of causing discord in the kingdom.

He further assured the protesters that the board would leave no stone unturned to correct any and all abnormalities that have been brought to the notice of the board.
