The people of Ogoda community in Ughelli South Local Government Area have refused an offer to move to camp of Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, alleging sharp practices by handlers in such camps.
The people of the community revealed this when one of their illustrious sons, Chief Efeviroro Edjuto, visited Ogoda and Okparebe communities to distribute food items to them.
Edjuto’s kind gesture was in keeping with his promise to ease the challenges being faced by flood victims in the communities.
The Agoda flood victims refused to go to the IDP camp in Ewu, citing the pains they faced in the camp during the 2012 flood devastation in the state.
The first port of call by Chief Efeviroro Edjuto in his effort to support victims of flood in communities in Ughelli South was Ogoda community where homes have almost been submerged by the flood.
He went with foodstuff which include beans, rice, yam, noodles and detergents.
The people on seeing Chief Edjuto who apart from bringing relief materials for them, came to transport them to an IDP camp in Ewu, came out in their numbers by boat, which is the only means for them to move around in the community.
They alleged that some persons took advantage of the flood situation in the past to enrich themselves and called on the state and federal governments to bring whatever they have for them to the community directly or through Chief Efeviroro Edjuto, who they can wholeheartedly trust.
Edjuto, a PDP aspirant for the Ughelli South Constituency seat in the Delta State House of Assembly, had told them he feels their pains which prompted him to reach out to some communities in Ughelli South affected by the flood.
He called on the state, federal government and well-meaning Nigerians to come to the aid of the victims.
A similar situation played in Okparabe community where Chief Edjuto distributed relief materials to women, men and children.
They expressed joy for the kind gesture of Chief Edjuto, noting that even when he is not a Government appointee he is touching lives positively.
Chief Edjuto has also visited Arhavwarien community to distribute relief materials to flood victims.
