The Chairman, 2022 Delta State Flood Management Committee and Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Chief Patrick Ukah, has directed Camp Commandants in the various Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, camps in the state to appoint leaders of the camps from among the victims.
The SSG gave the directive when he visited the IDPs camps established across the state as part of government efforts to monitor the activities of the displaced persons in camps.
The Chairman of the 2022 Delta State Flood Management Committee and Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Chief Patrick Ukah, and his team were at Oleh, Ozoro and Utagba-Ogbe IDPs camps.
He said appointing leaders of the various camps from among the victims would have positive consequences in the camps.
Chief Ukah said information will be channelled through the leaders to the people as well as douse tension and create a harmonious atmosphere in the camps.
At the St. Michael College camp, Oleh, the SSG commended the management of DESOPADEC for its proactive measures in setting up the camp, which he said will complement the state government’s efforts to mitigate the impact of the flood on displaced persons in the locality.
He also commended the camp officials for the smooth running of the camp and urged them to keep up the good work.
At the Isoko Central School, Oleh, Alaka Secondary School, Ozoro and Utagba-Ogbe Technical College camps set up by the state government, Chief Ukah admonished the Camp Commandants to ensure that the welfare of the IDPs is not compromised, stressing that their feeding remains a serious priority.
As regards sanitation in the camps, the SSG directed the Camp Commandants to put modalities in place for the effective disposal of refuse so as to curtail the spread of diseases in the camps
He stated that teaching and learning will begin in the camps from Monday as the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education is set to kickstart the process.
While sympathizing with the IDPs in the camps visited, Chief Ukah assured them that the administration of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa will do everything within its resources to alleviate their plight.
