Two water supply schemes executed in Ughelli metropolis, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State by the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s led state government have been inaugurated amid cheers from immediate benefiting communities.
The water schemes located at Otovwierere and Okunugbe in Ughelli, were commissioned by the State Commissioner for Water Resources Development, Hon Samuel Mariere, flanked by top officials of the ministry and Delta State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, RUWASSA.
In his brief remarks before inaugurating the two water supply schemes for public use, the Water Resources Development Commissioner, Hon Samuel Mariere, said water is life hence state government’s serious intervention in the sector.
Hon Mariere disclosed that upon resumption of office about six months ago, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa gave immediate approval for construction and rehabilitation of twenty one water schemes, in line with state government’s drive for rapid infrastructural development across all sectors of the state, including health, works and education amongst others.
Mariere, a former member of the State Legislature and time Chairman, of Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Water Resources, said a total of fifty-nine Water Schemes and twenty-two Pour Flush Toilets in Primary Schools across the state were also recently approved for immediate intervention by Governor Okowa.
He explained that the two water supply schemes being commissioned in Ughelli were executed by the state government under the supervision of the Delta State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, RUWASSA, as the service delivery arm of the state ministry of Water Resources Development.
The Commissioner appealed to Otovwierere and Okunugbe communities to protect the two projects, as community ownership was the new approach to the sustainability of rural water supply facilities across the globe.
On the political scene, Hon Mariere pointed out the level of decay and disorder in all sectors of the nation’s economy as a result of the bad leadership of APC at the centre and enjoined the people to vote Atiku-Okowa presidency to recover and restructure the country.
The Water Resources Commissioner said Okowa as Vice President portends great things for Delta State and the entire Niger Delta region, and asked the people to mobilize their families, relatives and friends to massively vote for the Governor and all other PDP candidates in the forthcoming elections.
“My people, you know Okowa’s capacity and capability to deliver. He is competent and credible. He is very passionate about the development of this country. Let’s mobilize support for the Atiku-Okowa presidency to reset this country for the good of present and future generations.
“The best way to tell Okowa thank you for these projects is by voting for all PDP candidates come Saturday and March 11 2023. I assure you that this Otovwienwiere street would be tarred with good drainages as soon as the new PDP comes in at both federal and state levels,” Mariere assured.

Engr clement Adiotomre urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the two water schemes and to reach out to the agency when there is any major breakdown.
The community leaders and some other residents, while reacting to the inauguration of the two water schemes, commended the state government for the gesture and pledged their commitment to protecting them.
The respondents also extolled the sterling qualities of Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, saying that the Governor will make a fantastic Vice President and promised to mobilize support for the victory of the PDP in the general elections.
