Nigerian singer, songwriter and entertainer, Teniola Apata, also known as Teni, on Monday confirmed that her performance at Buguma Town in Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State was disrupted by gunshots by yet to be identified gunmen at the venue. In a viral video that surfaced on Sunday, the singer was seen being escorted off the stage by her bodyguards as people in the audience scampered for safety as bullets rented the air.Stating her own position of what transpired via her Instagram page, Teni debunked claims that the gunshots were targeted at kidnapping her.She said, “It all happened so fast. There was no incidence of attempted kidnap.
“A fight started out backstage and that led to a stampede.”
She earlier wrote on her Instagram page saying, “(It) could have been a different story entirely but I’m grateful to God.
“Myself and entire team are safe and back home now. Thanks for the calls and messages.”
The acting spokesman for the Rivers State police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident but said Teni was rescued by security operatives unhurt.
“The police division there in Buguma has been mandated to fish out those behind the attack. We will ensure they are brought to book,” she stated.
