Jonathan Daje has emerged winner of DBS Song of the Year Season Five and grabbed One Point Five Million Naira.
John Tuoyo emerged second and Okpako Ahereoghene emerged third in the keenly contested grand finale, which took place at Prena Center situated on No. 3 Ebike-ere Frank Omare Drive, Opposite DSTV Office, Beside First Bank on Airport Road, Warri, Delta State.
The grand finale held on Thursday, October 31, 2024, was a clash of the Titans, as ten contestants battled for the coveted prize of One Point Five Million Naira plus recording deals.
The ten finalists were Debi Sean, Deborah Eweke, Okpako Ahereoghene, Jessica Obaro and Lawrence Simon, Jonathan Daje, Ogechi Mba, Tuoyo John, Confidence David and Isukuru Ovie.
One after the other, the ten contestants gave a good account of themselves, leaving the audience with great excitement.
It was a herculean task for the judges, made up of popular music producer Teejay, DBS Warri Music Director, Obes Isonguyo, and renowned musician Sola-X, to select the winners of the competition.
Chairman of the Board of Directors DBS Warri, Elegbete Moses Odibo, commended the major sponsor of the competition, Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, supported by ND Western and Chief Frank Omare.
Chief Odibo went on to reveal that DBS Warri is presently being rebranded for effective service delivery.
Elegbete Odibo electrified the hall when he sang the Redemption song by reggae icon Bob Marley to the admiration of all present.
General Manager of DBS Warri, Pastor Malcolm Oteri, said the programme which is part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of DBS Warri, aimed at discovering and nurturing talented singers to stardom and hailed the committee for its consistency.
Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of DESOPADEC, Chief Festus Ochonogor, represented by the Executive Director, Social Services, Chief Favour Izuokumor, said the competition is aimed at nurturing the abundant talented singers in Delta State and urged the artists to use their songs to unify the state.
Wife of the Delta State governor and chairperson of You Matter Foundation, Dcns Tobore Oborevwori, was represented by Mrs Dora Sakpaide at the event.
