President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he wished more Nigerian youths should follow Chef Hilda Bassey Effiong, aka Hilda Baci’s footsteps.
Buhari stated this in his congratulatory message to Hilda, who broke the world record for longest hours of cooking, finding her way into the Guinness Book of Records, and placing Nigeria in the global spotlight.
The President in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina lauded the 27-year-old Chef, for turning her talent and passion into a career, with a rippling effect on the economy as she runs a restaurant in Lagos, and trains other talents on entrepreneurship, and now leads the world in resilience, perseverance, and consistency in cooking.
President Buhari expressed the optimism that Hilda Baci’s drive and ambition have brought more interest and insight into the uniqueness of Nigerian food, as another cultural icon, with huge tourism benefits, hoping more young people will follow in her footsteps.
Hilda Baci originally known as Hilda Bassey Effiong has officially broken the world record of the longest cooking initially held by Lata Tondon of India, set in 2019.
She started on Thursday, May 11 and by the early hours of Monday 15, had equalled and surpassed the former record of 87 hours 45 minutes set by an Indian Lady, Lata Tondon.
Hilda Baci surpassed the 96-hour target and has now achieved a 100-hour record time.
She began cooking, cooking and cooking. People cheered, people came to support and of course, you will also see negative people who condemned the act and questioned why she was doing it.
This act of hers, brought individuals from different tribes all over the nation together in one place, to join hands and support her. Governor Babajide Sanwoolu of Lagos State and Senator Godswill Akpabio, accompanied by other Senators- elect, as well as celebrities like Banky W, came physically to Amore Gardens, Lekki, in Lagos, where cooking was taking place to eat and show solidarity with Hilda Baci.
