A Delta-based activist, Comrade Israel Joe on Monday called on the Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, to implement the State’s Judicial Panel report on complaints of police brutality and extra-judicial killings.
Recall that Governor Okowa on Friday, July 9, 2021, when he received the report of the Judicial Panel promised to support families of victims.
Joe in a statement however expressed concern about the delay in the implementation by the State Government.
The Delta-based activist, who was a proponent of the #EndSARS protest noted that the Judicial panel report had been submitted to the governor months ago.
According to Joe, “Deltans have been patiently waiting for the moment where they will celebrate justice against police brutality, oppression, victimization, extortion and so on.
“The governor has shown serious commitment towards ending police impunity and we appeal he should act on the report timely as Deltans are now disturbed and calling us endlessly on same.”
Joe said the judicial panel report when implemented would mean a lot for justice for those who witness firsthand brutality and injustice to whom the panel recommended compensation.
“However, while we appreciate the works done by the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Mohammed Ali in the reduction of crime, especially cult-related activities in the state, we also call on the CP to call the Sapele DPO to order as that place has been a den of extortion.
“The DPO in Otu-Jeremi should also ensure that his men who always mount checkpoint at Otokutu Bridge near Warri to collect 100naira each from motorists, Keke riders and bus drivers should desist from such criminal act.”
