The Delta State Police Command has arrested Michael Ezenwai, a suspected serial killer and fugitive linked to the 2020 rape and murder of UNIBEN student Uwaila Omozuwa, after he attempted to sell a stolen phone.
Police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe said the suspect was apprehended on 24 October 2025 by operatives of the Agbor Division following a complaint that he was trying to dispose of a suspicious phone.
While in custody, the phone rang and the caller identified it as belonging to her sister, Christabel Egedefe.
Acting on this information, the Divisional Police Officer led operatives to the woman’s residence, where she was discovered dead.
Ezenwai later confessed to killing the 26-year-old after he initially tried to blame the victim’s father but withdrew the claim under further questioning.
He admitted that he visited her home on 23 October 2025 to rob her and murdered her when she resisted surrendering her motorcycle keys before fleeing with her phones.
Investigators say Ezenwai is a confirmed serial offender. Preliminary checks linked him to the group that raped and murdered UNIBEN undergraduate Uwaila Omozuwa inside a church in 2020.
He also confessed to escaping from the Oko Correctional Centre during the EndSARS jailbreak.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
