Elon Musk has announced that he has canceled his Netflix subscription, urging others to do the same in protest of what he described as the platform’s inclusion of transgender characters in children’s shows — even in series that premiered or ended years ago.
Earlier this week, Musk reshared a post on X criticizing Dead End: Paranormal Park, an animated Netflix series featuring a transgender protagonist.
“This is not okay,” Musk wrote in one of several posts targeting the show.
He later reposted an image accusing Netflix of having a “transgender woke agenda,” adding, “Cancel Netflix for the health of your kids.”
Dead End: Paranormal Park first aired in 2022 and was canceled the following year.
The billionaire continued his criticism by calling on followers to cancel their subscriptions over other series with transgender characters, including The Baby-Sitters Club, which was canceled after two seasons in 2022.
Musk also reacted to a post about a 2023 episode of CoComelon Lane that showed a child wearing a tutu and tiara, commenting, “Super messed up for a kids show!”
Musk’s comments add to a broader right-wing backlash against diversity and inclusion in media.
Influencers and politicians, including Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), have accused Netflix and other companies of promoting what they call “woke gender ideology.”
Meanwhile, the Trump administration has declared diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs “illegal” and prohibited gender-affirming care for minors.
According to The Verge, media companies are facing mounting political and social pressure, with officials such as Federal Communications Commission head Brendan Carr reportedly urging firms to roll back DEI policies.
While the FCC has limited authority over streaming platforms like Netflix, figures such as Musk continue to wield significant influence over public sentiment and corporate reputation.
Notably, some studios had already begun scaling back trans representation before these renewed attacks.
The Verge reports that Disney pulled an episode of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur in December for highlighting a transgender character.
