Management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife in Osun State has shut down the institution following the death of a 400 level student.
The deceased student by the name Aishat Omowumi Adesina, until her death at the institution’s health centre, was of the Department of Foreign Language.
Following her death, students protested for hours blocking the Ife-Ibadan and Ife-Ede highways.
They attributed her death to negligence on the part of workers at the health facility.
A statement by the management noted that the students are to vacate the campus and hall of residence on or before 12pm on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the management of the institution says it has put in place the machinery to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of the undergraduate student.
The University management also said it would investigate the subsequent protests that erupted on Friday after the demise of the student and exonerated workers at the health centre of any medical misdiagnosis.
The Management, however, said it understands the grief resulting from the untimely death within the community and sympathises with the parents, friends, colleagues and the entire students of the University over the sad loss, and prayed for the repose of her soul.
