Delta based NGO begins programme to return over one million riverine pupils, students back to school

Due to the alarming rate of pupils and students not being able to go to school especially in the riverine communities occasioned by the lack of basic resources and funds from parents, a non-governmental organization, NGO, based in Delta State, Eric Igban Foundation has taken it upon itself to assist pupils and students from the riverine communities to go back to school as well as enhance their studies.

The Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of the foundation, Dr Andrew Omagbemi Igban, said this year’s programme which is the 5th edition is geared towards educational upliftment in various communities as education remains the greatest legacy people can live behind for future generations to come.

Dr Igban who said that the foundation’s activities are yearly revealed that last year, which was the 4th edition witnessed leadership seminar and health awareness campaign.

According to him during that edition, a lot of individuals both old and young were tested, given medications and health advice by professionals on any sickness diagnosed in their body.

The Foundation CEO revealed that it is in honour of late Engr. Eric Igban memorial activities, stressing that they will give to the participants during the course of the programme lots of educational materials ranging from school bags, books, sandals, Mathematical sets and reading lamps.

He assured that the foundation will distribute the educational materials across communities to enable and encourage the youths to stay focus and study hard to become great men and women of their dreams.

Meanwhile, the Eric Igban Foundation boss has presented an Award of Excellence to the Olu of Warri, Oguame Ikenwoli in appreciation of his commitment, support and dedication to service to Warri Kingdom.

Dr Igban reeled out some successes of the foundation to include training of some youths in skill acquisition to include: 16 skilful students at Egbokodo multipurpose training centre in Warri; sponsoring of some students into universities; training of youths in Lagos; entrepreneurship; training on solar installation among others.

He appealed for more support from corporate bodies and individuals in order to increase the reach of the foundation to the less privilege people particularly in riverine communities in Nigeria irrespective of tribe, religion and background.

While commending the Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for being a mentor and a father towards the foundation, Dr Igban said that the 5th edition which will commence on Monday November 9, 2020 at Ugborodo and Gbaramatu communities in Warri South-West Local Government Area of the state will feature a selection of qualified students for scholarship and further skill acquisition training support.
