Edo State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon. Francis Okiye has been impeached.
Okiye was impeached during Monday’s plenary sitting.
The House immediately elected and swore in the member representing Esan West State Constituency, Hon. Marcus Onobun, as the new Speaker.
Okiye was removed following a motion by the Majority Leader of the House, Henry Okhurobo.
Okhurobo accused the impeached speaker of high-handedness thus his impeachment.
Nine lawmakers out of the 10 members who were present during the sitting signed the impeachment.
