The Central Bank of Nigeria says old Naira notes of N200, N500 and N1,000 still remain legal for transactions until January 31, 2023.
The newly redesigned Nigeria Naira notes of 200, 500 and 1000 yesterday Thursday, December 15, 2022, went into circulation but many customers who went to their respective banks were disappointed as the new notes were unavailable.
This has however raised anxiety on the part of many Nigerians who fear that their old Naira notes may no longer be legal for transactions.
To douse and allay this fear, the apex Nigeria bank Friday via its official Twitter handle @cenbank said, “The current series of N200, N500 and N1,000 notes remain legal tender until the deadline of January 31, 2023.”
President Muhammadu Buhari three weeks ago unveiled the new bills at a weekly Federal Executive Council meeting in Aso Rock Villa.
