Jaro Egbo slashes price to 30k, declares free entry and exit for sales of sharp sand in Ughelli North

The Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Olorogun Jaro Egbo has declared free entry and exit for sales of sharp sand in any part of the local government area.

Egbo’s decision was part of the outcomes of a meeting he held with members of the Sand Dredgers Association and Union of Tippers & Quarry Employers of Nigeria (UTQUEN), Ughelli North Chapter.

The meeting, which took place on Monday, January 20, 2025, at the Council Secretariat, had the leadership of both the Sand Dredgers Association and Tipper Drivers Union, with Principal Council officials in attendance.

The following resolutions were reached at the meeting:

1. That the given price of sand is reduced to #30,000 per trip in Ughelli North LGA.

2. That builders are free to source sand from any beach without interference from any union or sand dredgers in the spirit of free Enterprise, which is in line with the MORE Agenda of His Excellency, Rt Hon. Elder Sheriff F.O Oborevwori, the Executive Governor of Delta State.

3. That Sand dealers are free to sell at any sustainable price, this is because the market forces is to determine prices.

4. That builders can source for sand within and outside the local government that is cheaper/ convenient to them without interference from any union whatsoever.

5. That the Council Task force will arrest any tipper or truck that is not covered with tarpaulin or Truck selling wet sands littering our roads/streets with sands with immediate effect.

The Council Chairman, Olorogun Egbo called on the general public to take note and report anybody or individuals interfering with the sales of sand to the local Government Authority for immediate action, advised the unions to go about their normal business maintaining laws and order in their dealings.
