Delta Capital Territory Development Agency seeks increased funding

The Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency is seeking increased funding in the 2022 Budget of the state.

The Director-General of the Agency, Hon Joan Onyemaechi who made the appeal when she appeared before Hon Emmanuel Sinebe led House Committee on Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, said the Agency is poised to enhance the aesthetic and infrastructural outlook of the State Capital Territory.

The Director-General flanked by top officials of the Agency said given the vision of the Agency in making the area attain the required status of a State Capital, the N7.5 Billion Cap Limit as captured in the 2022 Budget proposal may be insufficient.

Hon Onyemaechi explained that the solicited increased budgetary allocation for the Agency would be channelled towards the rehabilitation of several roads as well as construction and development of new one’s to open up Asaba and its environs for greater socio-economic transformations.

She disclosed that the Agency currently has about 23 critical ongoing projects, adding that it also has proposed 46 new projects for the 2022 fiscal year.

The Director-General listed some of the new proposed projects which she emphasized are of critical necessity to include; design and construction of City Gates at Issele-Azagba along the Asaba Benin express road and the redesign and naming of all major roads and streets within the Capital Territory to be Google compliant.

Others include; Construction and equipping of Children’s Recreational House on the State Government land located along Summit Road by the DBS Road Junction, Asaba, redesigning and reconstruction of the Cenotaph to a Modern Civic Centre, Parade Ground and VIP Lounge.

She also listed Construction of more fruit, Farm produce and food arena in the Capital Territory, beautification of public realms within the Capital Territory and construction and rehabilitation of a good number of other new road projects within the Capital Territory that have been scoped but awaiting the Governor’s approval for implementation.

The Chairman, Delta State House of Assembly Committees on Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, Hon. Emmanuel Sinebe commended the Agency for its effort in the development of its mandate areas.

Hon Sinebe on behalf of the Committee assured of continued synergy with the agency in the development of the capital city.
