A two-time member of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Efe Ofobruku, has called on the people of Okpe/Sapele/Uvwie Federal Constituency to embrace peace, unity, and community-driven development as Christians mark Easter.
Ofobruku, who represented Uvwie Constituency and is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), described Easter as a season of sacrifice, love, and renewal, urging leaders to reflect these values through service-oriented governance.
“Easter teaches us that true leadership is rooted in sacrifice, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to the people,” he said.
He stressed that sustainable development in Delta State can only be achieved when leaders remain closely connected to the grassroots and prioritise the needs of ordinary citizens.
“Our communities will only thrive when leaders stay connected to the grassroots and respond to the real needs of the people,” he added.
The former lawmaker also emphasised the need for unity across political and social divides, noting that progress can only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace and cooperation.
“This season calls on us to put aside our differences and work together for the peace and development of Delta State,” he stated.
Ofobruku further urged political stakeholders to shift focus from rhetoric to measurable impact, insisting that governance must translate into tangible improvements in people’s lives.
“We must begin to measure leadership not by promises, but by tangible impact on the lives of ordinary citizens,” he said.
Highlighting the role of young people in shaping the future, he encouraged greater youth participation in governance and civic processes.
“Easter is a time to renew hope, especially for our youths, and to encourage them to remain active participants in shaping our collective future,” he noted.
He also called for a more responsible and inclusive political culture, warning against divisive tendencies that could hinder development.
“Political engagement should not divide us; it should unite us around a common goal of progress and shared prosperity,” Ofobruku said.
Reinforcing the importance of trust in leadership, he added that credibility must be earned through consistent service and accountability.
“The strength of our democracy lies in the trust between leaders and the people, and that trust must be continuously earned,” he emphasised.
Ofobruku concluded by urging all stakeholders to embrace peace and unity as the foundation for sustainable progress.
“There is no substitute for peace and unity if we truly desire sustainable development in our communities,” he said.
