The administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has recorded tremendous milestones in opening and clearing major waterways in Warri and Uvwie just one week after it commenced the exercise as part of its flood measures in the state.

Chief Omare had on Friday, August 4, 2023, mobilised swamp buggies and other heavy-duty equipment to at least six different locations in Warri and Uvwie to carry out massive opening and clearing of blocked major waterways through which water flow into the connecting rivers particularly when it rains.

While clearing the waterways on Monday, August 7, 2023, Chief Omare, further mobilised equipment to kick-start the demolition of buildings and other structures blocking the water channels.

Just one week into the exercise, the waterways being cleared are wearing a new look and capable of absorbing the pressure of water flowing into them from adjoining drainages.

From the Effurun GRA connecting Okoloba to Aka Avenue down to the Ekpan River, NNPC Housing Complex which also links the Ekpan River, behind Eburu Street area in Okumagba Layout, Robinson Plaza down to 1st Marine gate and other waterways swamp buggies and their operators can be seen working tirelessly to achieve effective result.

Residents of the areas particularly those residing along the major water channels told NewsNet Nigeria that they are grateful and thankful to the Oborevwori-led government through the office of the Director-General, Special Duties headed by Chief Frank Omare for the intervention, which they appealed should be sustained.

They however suggested that the state government should consider the option of constructing concrete pavement at least in some selected waterways especially to guide against further encroachment by developers.

DG Special Duties, Chief Omare commended the people for their cooperation, particularly in realising the need for them to own their environment.

While hinting that the exercise is expected to be extended to Ughelli in the coming week, Chief Omare tasked Deltans to join Governor Oborevwori in achieving his plan for a clean and healthy Delta State.
