Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has called on the Ijaw ethnic nationality in Delta State to sustain their support for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori-led administration, which he said remains committed to delivering on its MORE Agenda for the people of the state.

Rt Hon Guwor made the appeal on Wednesday in his office in Asaba when he received in audience the Executives of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Western Zone, who paid him a courtesy visit.

Addressing the delegation led by the IYC Western Zone Chairman, Comrade Nicholas Igaramar, the Speaker commended Governor Oborevwori for demonstrating goodwill not only towards the riverine communities but also to the entire Ijaw ethnic nationality and other groups across the state.

Flanked by his colleagues from the Ijaw ethnic group in the State Assembly, including Hon Oboro Preyor, Emmanuel Sinebe, Pereotu Oloye and Ebitonmo Alapala, Guwor noted that the administration had embarked on numerous road construction and other infrastructural projects, many of which are either completed or ongoing.

He highlighted some of the ongoing developments in both riverine and upland areas in Ijaw communities and assured that as lawmakers, they would continue to represent the interests of their constituents effectively.

The Speaker further urged the IYC and other Ijaw leaders to remain steadfast in their resolve for peace and good governance, which the Oborevwori administration is providing to Deltans, noting that the Governor has the welfare and development of the people at heart.

He said, “I want to say here that the level of concentration in Ijaw nation has increased in the present political dispensation. The last administration tried but the Ijaws are experiencing more under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration.

“My colleagues and I at the Delta State House of Assembly will continue to give you leadership as your ambassadors in the State Legislature. I want to appeal that you should always reach out to us before going to the press so that you don’t look confrontational.

On youth empowerment and capacity building, Rt Hon Guwor assured the delegation that the House would continue to advocate for the inclusion of Ijaw youths in relevant empowerment and development programs.

He, however, clarified that the State Assembly is not a revenue-generating institution but would continue to use its platform to seek interventions where necessary for the betterment of all segments of society.

Earlier, Comrade Igaramar commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the developmental strides recorded in Ijaw areas, but appealed for more government attention to human capital and infrastructural development in Delta Ijaw communities, including the speedy completion of the Ayakoromo Bridge project and all others in the area.
