The Delta State Police Command has dismissed as false a rumour alleging that bandits invaded Girls’ Secondary School, Utagba-Ogbe, Kwale, on Monday, 24th November 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the panic was triggered by misinformation spread among students and fuelled by unverified social media reports claiming community tension and supposed gunshots in the area.
On receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, ordered an immediate security assessment.
The Divisional Crime Officer of Kwale Division, SP Udofia Kufre, led a patrol team to the school for on-the-ground verification.
After interviewing the Vice Principal and the security guard on duty, police confirmed that there was no attack and that the chaos resulted solely from false information circulating among students.
In line with precautionary protocol, patrol teams visited neighbouring schools across the Kwale axis. All were found to be calm, secure, and operating normally.
The Command advised parents who had rushed to the school to pick up their children to remain calm, noting that normalcy had been fully restored.
CP Abaniwonda cautioned against spreading unverified claims capable of causing unnecessary fear or disrupting academic activities.
He reaffirmed the Command’s readiness to respond swiftly to any credible threat and urged school authorities to improve internal communication, report suspicious activities promptly, and maintain close cooperation with local security groups to enhance surveillance around schools.
