The Delta State Police Command has engaged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in an enlightenment session on cybercrime, law enforcement, and the rights and responsibilities of citizens.
The lecture, held on October 1, 2025, at the NYSC orientation camp in Delta State, was in line with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to resuscitate educational sessions with corps members nationwide.
Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, whose lecture at the event was delivered by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, said the initiative aims to reshape the mindset of young Nigerians for a better and more responsible future.
During the interactive session, corps members were sensitised on cybercrime, police accountability, community policing, and the importance of upholding citizens’ rights.
SP Bright emphasised that corps members must remain good ambassadors of the country, shun crime and violence, and uphold honesty and patriotism in their service and future endeavours.
He further underscored the importance of knowing and respecting both personal rights and the rights of others, while stressing the need to protect their freedoms by avoiding activities that could jeopardise them.
Highlighting Section 24 of the 1999 Constitution as amended, SP Bright reminded the corps members of their civic responsibilities, including respect for the constitution and institutions, promoting national interest, and supporting law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and order in their communities.
On police accountability, avenues for complaints against police actions were made available, including direct phone contacts and other accessible channels for reporting misconduct.
The Delta State Police Command expressed optimism that the orientation will foster stronger ties between the police and the youth, while equipping corps members with the knowledge to play active roles in nation-building.
