The Delta State Police Command has said that unknown gunmen on Wednesday morning killed three policemen at a checkpoint on the Obeti/Oliogo Road in Ukwuani Local Government Area of the state.
The deceased policemen until their death were attached to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Umutu, Ukwuani Local Government Area.
Confirming the incident in a phone chat with NewsNet Nigeria, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, simply said, “It is confirmed”.
NewsNet Nigeria gathered that the gunmen struck immediately the policemen arrived at the checkpoint just before 8am.
The gunmen reportedly after killing them set ablaze the Toyota Sienna patrol vehicle they came with resulting in their being burnt beyond recognition.
