The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing operations against violent crimes, with the arrest of suspected kidnappers and the recovery of one hundred and seventy-eight live cartridges in separate operations across the state.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the coordinated efforts of divisional officers in Bomadi and Ekpan Divisions led to the successful operations on Thursday, October 30, 2025.
According to the statement, operatives of the Bomadi Division, under the command of CSP Adie Peter Bissong, while on a joint stop-and-search operation with local vigilantes along the Bomadi–Tuomo Road, intercepted a motorcycle conveying a 62-year-old woman, later identified as Charter Timide, to Tuomo community.
During a search, officers discovered a concealed sack containing 178 live cartridges neatly packed for delivery.
The suspect reportedly confessed to purchasing the ammunition from Onitsha Main Market, prompting further investigations to determine its intended destination and possible connections to criminal groups.
The suspect and the recovered exhibits have been transferred to the State Headquarters in Asaba for discreet investigation.
In a separate development, the Ekpan Division, led by CSP Labe Joseph, acted swiftly on a distress call reporting a kidnapping incident at Ubeji Community, near the Ubeji Gas Plant.
Police teams immediately stormed the area, where the suspects fled into an abandoned poultry house.
The operatives cordoned off the premises and arrested seven suspects, all from Ubeji community: Felix Omone (33), Solomon Omone (29), Tony Eboye (34), Omone David (32), Jerry Omone (33), Godspower Omone (25), and Edewho Bomele (33).
The operation also led to the rescue of three kidnapped victims from Jeddo community, who were later reunited with their families.
Preliminary findings revealed that the victims were abducted from a dredging site and held hostage while the kidnappers made ransom demands under threats of death.
SP Edafe noted that all suspects are currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to track down fleeing accomplices and recover weapons used in the crime.
