The immediate past chairman of Ethiope West Local Government Council, Pastor Oghenedoro Owoso has accepted the clarion call by the people of Jesse Ward 5 to run for a second term as chairman of the council.

Pastor Owoso yielded to the call of the people after they overwhelmingly passed a vote of confidence on him for the outstanding performance of his administration of Ethiope West Council from 2021 to 2024 at a gathering in his honour held at the residence of one of the leaders of Jesse Ward 5, Chief Silver Okitikpi.

It was a homecoming for Pastor Oghenedoro Owoso as he was given a rousing welcome by the entire leadership and people of Jesse Ward 5 in Ethiope West Local Government Area.

Pastor Owoso flanked by his wife was joined by the immediate past chairmen of Sapele and Ethiope East Local Government Areas, Chief Eugene Inoaghan and Hon. Victor Ofobrukueta as the people of Jesse Ward 5 came out in their numbers to rejoice and celebrate him after a meritorious and successful completion of his first tenure as chairman of Ethiope West Local Government Council.

Top among dignitaries from Ethiope West that graced the ceremony were a former member of the Delta State House of Assembly and a member of the Delta State Executive Council, Chief Anthony Akpomiemie and the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ethiope West Chapter, Chief Solomon Obareki.

Delta State Commissioner for Bureau for Special Duties, Hon. Ejiro Etagherure, Chief Silver Okitikpi, the National President General of Idjerhe Clan Development Union (ICDU), Chief Lucky Edomidaghan, Chief Emmanuel Ganigan, Hon. Austin Atomre, and others who spoke at the event attested to the fact that Pastor Owoso made them proud by delivering on the mandate entrusted to him by the people of Ethiope West.

They therefore passed a vote of confidence on him and called on him to vie again for the chairmanship position of Ethiope West Council to continue the good works he has started.

The Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Olorogun Benson Okorodudu particularly appreciated the people of Jesse Ward 5 for honouring their son as it is rare to see a politician who did well to be truly loved and commended by his people.

Olorogun Okorodudu who applauded the people of Jesse Ward 5 for endorsing Pastor Owoso for a second term as chairman of Ethiope West Council also acknowledged the projects and programmes executed by the Pastor Owoso-led administration which are visible across the length and breadth of Ethiope West.

He said, “For the first time we are seeing that a man is respected and honoured in his place. It is very rare to see a politician being appreciated from his home because of the spirit of jealousy and unnecessary hatred. I commend our brothers, sisters and leaders of Ward 5.

“What is good is good. There is no other language to describe it. Pastor Pastor Oghenedoro Owoso is good. Your works have shown it, right from Oghara, through Mosogar down to Jesse. We have seen your good handwork.”

Pastor Owoso while accepting the clarion call by the people of Jesse Ward 5 to run again for the chairmanship of Ethiope West Local Government Council, thanked the leaders and people of the Ward for their prayers and support throughout his first tenure.

He stated, “Your clarion call for my second tenure, I accept. I will hardly say no to your request but let us know that power belongs to God. Let’s continue to pray to God, and let God perfect His will.

“By the grace of God, today the leaders of Ethiope West gave me this mandate in the year 2021 to go for this chairmanship, a mandate I never took for granted. I want to appreciate you all, the leadership of my party the PDP in Ethiope West and the people in general.

“I want to say thank you all for your prayers, for your support and for this vote of confidence the entire Ward 5 people unanimously passed on me and the entire leadership of the administration led by my humble self. We are grateful and we pray God Almighty continue to bless every one of you in Jesus’s name, Amen.

“I want to appreciate you all for recognising the fact that as a people, as a government we have tried our best to impact on the lives of people.”

Pastor Owoso who enumerated a lot of projects and programmes executed by his administration in three years particularly the Ethiope West Visible Entrepreneurship and Skill Acquisition, EWVESA programme through which the lives of over 500 persons across the council area were positively impacted, said he was able to achieve much due to the support of the people and other critical stakeholders in the area.

“We trained youths. We gave them starter packs. Not only that, we gave cash empowerment to petty traders and farmers across the local government area. Within this short period, we have done so many projects. There is no Ward in Ethiope West which cannot boast of two to three projects.

“We worked together as a team and all our projects across the length and breadth of this local government are visible,” said Owoso.

He pledged to sustain the good works he has started if he emerges as chairman of Ethiope West Local Government Council for a second term because that would be another opportunity for him to offer genuine service to the people in complementing the MORE agenda of the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori who is consolidating on the successes recorded by his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.

Pastor Oghenedoro Owoso before 2021 when he became the chairman of Ethiope West Local Government Council was first elected as a Counsellor for Jesse Ward from 2008 to 2011.

While still serving his first as a Counsellor, the people of Jesse Ward resolved for him to go for another term making him the first Counsellor to return unopposed in the history of Idjerhe Kingdom.
