The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, has read the riot act to officers under his watch, warning against extortion, unlawful detention, and the indiscriminate searching of mobile phones.
Speaking during a strategic conference with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and tactical commanders at the Police Officers’ Mess, Headquarters Asaba, on Tuesday, CP Olufemi aligned his directives with the outcome of the recent Inspector-General of Police (IGP) conference.
He stressed that the Command under his leadership will enforce intelligence-led patrols, disciplined highway operations, and full respect for human rights.
“Policemen are not allowed to randomly stop people and search their mobile phones. Any officer found engaging in this embarrassing act will be decisively dealt with,” he declared.
The Commissioner ordered senior officers to ensure thorough pre-deployment briefings and post-deployment reviews, insisting that operations must be firm but civil.
He also tasked commanders to intensify intelligence gathering around black spots, kidnap, and robbery-prone corridors, while deepening collaboration with sister agencies and local communities in line with the IGP’s inter-agency cooperation agenda.
Assuring residents of a reinforced security architecture during the “ember months” and festive season, CP Olufemi directed Area Commanders and DPOs to cascade his orders across all formations for strict compliance and accountability.
He further urged the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information to the police through the nearest station or the Command’s distress line: 08036684974.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, in a statement, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to upholding professionalism and restoring public trust in the Force.
