It was another sad news at the Delta State House of Assembly following the announcement of the shocking death of Hon Denis Omovie, a former member of the House by the Speaker, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori on resumption of Wednesday’s plenary.

The legislative activities were halted by the news of the demise of the former Lawmaker who represented Warri South Two Constituency for sixteen years, 2003 to 2019.

The news of the deceased non-sitting member of the House was broken by the Speaker, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori immediately he arrived the hallowed chamber alongside other principal officers of the House for the already scheduled Wednesday plenary.

The sad news, no doubt, shattered the morals, joy and dispositions of the Lawmakers who had already resumed their seats for the day’s legislative business.

The Speaker, shortly after requesting for an opening prayer from one of the members in preparatory for the normal legislative business of the day, told his colleagues that Hon Dennis Omovie died in the early hours of Wednesday.

He said he was informed of the sad news almost immediately and ordered a minute silence in honor of the departed former Lawmaker, Hon Dennis Omovie

Oborevwori noted that following the sad news, the House would adjourn to give the former member deserved last respect, while recalling his active roles in the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Assemblies.

While the Lawmakers suspended all Legislative activities slated for Wednesday’s legislative business, they however, entertained message from the State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa on the Delta State Medium Term Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper for 2022 to 2024.

Governor Okowa said the correspondence was in conformity with the Delta State Fiscal Responsibility law 2020 as well as the state desire to ensure proper proper financial management and allocation of it scarce resources.

He said the Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper was prepared by the State Ministry of Economic Planning in line with international best practices, stressing that the document was key to preparation of the 2022 budget.

The Medium Term Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper for 2022 to 2024 as requested by the governor was approved by the House following a motion to that effect by the Deputy Majority Leader, Oboro Preyor and adopted.

The House adjourned to Wednesday next week
