Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has assured Deltans of more impactful bills to deepen good governance and sustained development in the state.

Speaking in an interview in Asaba on the 30th anniversary of the creation of Delta State, Rt Hon Oborevwori said the state legislature would never reneged in its core responsibilities.

The Speaker stated that celebrating three decades of the creation of Delta State is a thing of joy as a lot of positive changes had taken place in the state in the last thirty years.

The Speaker noted that successive government had ensured that the state move forward, saying that the uninterrupted democracy in the country since 1999, also added great values to the dreams of the founding fathers for creating the state.

Rt Hon Oborevwori said the present administration is doing very well in terms of infrastructures and human capital development, emphasizing the need for the people to maintain the existing peace and unity in the state.

He pointed out that more progress can only be made in an atmosphere of peace, rule of law and tranquility, stressing “I give God the glory that in few days from now Delta State will turn 30. In each of the passing decades there have been alot of improvement by successive governments. Presently Delta State is stable and peaceful, there is unity. One thing you must know is that when you have peace, development thrives”.

The Speaker explained that the return of democratic governance granted the legislature the opportunity to perform its constitutional duties of lawmaking, representation and over sighting, saying that the State Legislature will continue to enact laws that would have positive impact on the people.

“I will say 100%, we are living up to expectation in the legislature today. There are two types of bills, the Executive bills and Individual bills. We look at bills that can impact positively on Deltans and passed on the floor of the House. We are doing extremely well and I will say it again that because we have a Governor who is a former lawmaker in the Red Chamber, who has sponsored bills that had been assented to by the President, the governor that knows legislative procedures, the passage of executive bills becomes much more easier as he only introduced bills that have impact on Deltans,” Oborevwori stated.

He said further that the cordial relationship and synergy between the legislative and executive arms of government in the state had helped in the implementation of government policies and programs and assured that the good working relationship would be sustained for the overall interest of the state.

The Speaker expressed optimism that the state will make more progress in the area of peace and security as there is no part of the world that do not have peculiar insecurity challenges.

He paid glowing tributes to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa over his administration’s pragmatic approach to youth restiveness, stating that the state government is doing extremely well in that regards which had resulted to increased quantum in oil production in the state as well as attracting development to even the remotest areas of the state.

Rt Hon Oborevwori also extolled the relationship between the state government and traditional institutions, stating that the partnership has helped the peace process in the state.

He said the town hall meetings which was already started by the Governor should be encouraged as it is very key in looking into the needs and challenges of the people as well as the order of priorities and preference.

The Speaker congratulated Deltans for what he described as a well deserved 30th anniversary of the creation of Delta State.

“I congratulate Deltans for the 30th anniversary of the creation of our dear state and sincerely thank them for their support to the Okowa’s led administration. I employ all to help sustain the peace we are enjoying today. Where there is no peace, development will not thrive. No nation develop in a crisis situation. For the state to move forward we must sustain the existing peace, unity and love amongst us. Once again, happy 30th anniversary,” Oborevwori stated.
